Gold Nose Rings & 14k Gold Nose Studs in Los Angeles

A studio guide to solid 14k and 18k gold nose jewelry — solid vs. plated, studs vs. hoops, gauge and fit, and when to graduate from titanium into gold. Fitted in-studio in Santa Monica.

Why Gold for a Nose Piercing

Gold is one of the most requested metals for nose jewelry, and for good reason. A solid 14k or 18k gold nose stud has a warmth and depth that plated pieces can't fake, and — when it's genuinely solid and nickel-free — it's biocompatible enough to live in a healed piercing for years. At Apollo Tattoo & Piercing Studio in Santa Monica, the gold nose jewelry we stock is made by Body Vision Los Angeles (BVLA), cast in solid karat gold and finished to a standard you can wear every day.

The word that matters most here is solid. “Gold” on a product listing can mean three very different things, and only one of them belongs in your nose.

Solid Gold vs. Gold-Filled vs. Gold-Plated

  • Solid gold (14k / 18k): Gold all the way through, alloyed for strength. This is the only type we recommend for a piercing. It won't flake, and quality solid gold is nickel-free.
  • Gold-filled: A thick layer of gold pressure-bonded to a base metal. Better than plating, but the core is not gold — and for a piercing, the surface is what your tissue touches.
  • Gold-plated / “gold vermeil”: A microscopically thin coat over base metal. It wears off, exposes the metal underneath, and can irritate the piercing channel. Avoid it for anything you keep in.

14k vs. 18k Gold

Karat measures how much of the alloy is pure gold. 14k is about 58% gold — a little harder and more scratch-resistant, which makes it a practical, popular choice for a piece you wear constantly. 18k is 75% gold — richer in color and slightly softer. Both come in yellow, white, and rose. For a first gold nostril piece that has to survive daily life, most people are happiest in 14k; 18k is a lovely upgrade once you know you love the placement.

Gold Nose Studs vs. Gold Nose Rings

“Nose ring” is a catch-all. What you actually wear depends on whether you want a stud that sits flat against your nostril or a hoop that wraps it.

Gold Nose Studs

A stud is a small decorative end on a post, held in place by the shape of the back. There are three common backs, and the difference is entirely about how the post secures:

  • Nostril screw: The post twists into a corkscrew for a low-profile, stay-put fit — great if you don't want to think about it once it's in.
  • L-bend: The post bends into an L to lock securely while staying easy to take in and out.
  • Bone-end: A small fixed ball on the end holds fast and inserts quickly.

Gold studs are where BVLA shines — genuine diamonds, sapphires, and opals set in solid gold, from a single barely-there point to clustered arrangements.

Gold Nose Rings & Hoops

If you want a hoop, gold seam rings and clickers give you that clean circle around the nostril. The trade-off is fit: a hoop's diameter has to match your anatomy or it either pinches or gapes. That's why we measure in-studio rather than guessing from a size chart.

Gauge and Fit

Most nostril jewelry is 18g or 20g — thin enough to look delicate, strong enough for daily wear. A new gold piece has to match your existing piercing's gauge, and post length or hoop diameter has to suit your nose. We confirm all of it at a quick fitting so the piece sits flush and looks intentional, not perched.

When Can You Wear Gold?

Here's the honest timeline: gold is a healed-piercing metal, not a fresh-piercing metal. For a brand-new nostril piercing, the first-line choice is ASTM F-136 implant-grade titanium — it's nickel-free, held to a true implant standard, and gentle on a healing wound. Once your nostril is fully healed (typically a few months, confirmed by your piercer, not the calendar), you can switch into solid gold. If you're booking a nose piercing in Los Angeles, plan to start in titanium and treat the gold as the reward you graduate into.

Buying Gold Nose Jewelry in Los Angeles

Solid gold is worth buying from people who can fit it. Online, you're gambling on gauge, length, karat honesty, and whether “gold” means solid or plated. At Apollo, our gold nose rings and nostril studs are BVLA, made to order in solid 14k and 18k gold, and fitted in-studio by Fakir-certified piercers. Because solid gold is priced by karat, weight, and any genuine gemstones, each piece is quoted for the design you choose rather than sold off a rack — and you leave with it seated correctly the same day.

We serve Santa Monica and greater Los Angeles from 2625 Main St, and we're happy to look at gold you already own: bring it in, and we'll check the metal, gauge, and fit honestly before we put it in your nose. Ready to upgrade into gold, or start a fresh nostril the right way? Book a piercing or jewelry consultation and we'll match the metal, gauge, and style to your anatomy.
